About Us
Swimmable San Francisco Bay is a community volunteer-run organization founded in 2024 to advocate for safe and equitable swimming access to the San Francisco Bay. We joined the international Swimmable Cities alliance in its first year, connecting our local efforts with the global movement revitalizing urban waterfronts from Copenhagen, Paris, and London to New York, Ottawa, and Tokyo.
Founder
Rebecca Groves
Rebecca is a nonprofit executive and community activist. She has been swimming in the Bay as a member of the Dolphin Club for over 10 years. She serves on the Board of the Dogpatch and NW Potrero Hill Green Benefit District, and volunteers with the Dogpatch Neighborhood Association and Daniel Webster Elementary PTA.

Fran is an open water swimmer and rower who starts every morning at Aquatic Park, year-round. She is a former president of the South End Rowing Club and serves on its board.

Dan is an urban designer, planner and landscape architect for the Port of San Francisco and has designed several of the new public spaces along the San Francisco waterfront.

Roxane is a global technology executive who has advised companies, created one, and served on multiple boards. Roxane advocates for women’s rights on the boards of the International Museum of Women and the Global Fund for Women. She is an open water swimmer and member of the South End Rowing Club.

Cathie’s decades-long career has been devoted to creating parks and public spaces from neglected urban sites and former military bases. Her favorite past projects include Crissy Field restoration, Fort Baker conversion to Cavallo Point, and Lands End renewal.

Peter advises on financial transactions for California local governments. He serves as a Trustee for the Jewish Community Center of San Francisco, a Member of the True Blue Leadership Circle of San Francisco Baykeeper, and an Advisor for the Aquatic Park & Pier Project. Peter is also an open water swimmer and former president of the South End Rowing Club.
